Killing the Church with Sunday School

It’s absolutely imperative that we reintegrate children back into our gathered worship. This may take time, it may be messy, but we’ve got to do it.
And we adults need to be there to help them in their growth. To teach them. To make room for them in the pews. To let them follow our fingers as we trace the melody in the hymnal. To be patient with them when they squirm and sigh. Above all, to show them by example the importance of being the church on Sunday so that we can be the church we need to be every other day.

The battle belongs to the Lord again

Yes, we live in a world rife with evil’s weapons: deceit, greed, jealousy, maliciousness, bitterness, self-loathing, etc. However, for those who come to the Lord, there is no contest. God’s power infuses life where death reigned. God wins.

Number of U.S. adults cohabiting with a partner continues to rise, especially among those 50 and older

Roughly half of cohabiters – those living with an unmarried partner – are younger than 35. But an increasing number of Americans ages 50 and older are in cohabiting relationships, according to a new Pew Research Center analysis of the Current Population Survey. In fact, cohabiters ages 50 and older represented about a quarter (23%) of all cohabiting adults in 2016.

A Review of the film “The Case for Christ”

This film is not sugary, sweet, and full of easy resolutions. There is drinking, fighting, and lots of fear and anger on display. None of the characters (based on real people) give simple answers or offer platitudes. Lee is conducting an investigation and it is not going as he thought and that ticks him off, especially at his wife, who now has a relationship with someone else…Jesus.
This film is worthy of your support. It is challenging and will help strengthen your faith if you are a believer. If you are not a believer it is a worthy thing to spend time being intellectually and emotionally honest by following Lee in his journey toward faith.

Viewing Your Job as Your “Calling” Can Lead to Letdown and Burnout

The takeaway seems to be that some people who enter careers thinking they’re answering some greater call can be a little naive about what the job will entail and how much of an impact they can have. While this study only covered animal shelter workers, the same could probably apply to any nonprofit-type career, as well as various careers in medicine, social work, the legal field, and more.

The Utter Uselessness of Job Interviews

What can be done? One option is to structure interviews so that all candidates receive the same questions, a procedure that has been shown to make interviews more reliable and modestly more predictive of job success. Alternatively, you can use interviews to test job-related skills, rather than idly chatting or asking personal questions.
Realistically, unstructured interviews aren’t going away anytime soon. Until then, we should be humble about the likelihood that our impressions will provide a reliable guide to a candidate’s future performance.

You Can Train Yourself to Be Frugal—And It’s Pretty Painless

The idea is to design your life in a way that makes certain tasks easier than others. A really basic example of this is keeping healthy foods on hand if you want to eat healthier. So if you’re craving a row of Oreos instead, that means you have to get in the car, go to the grocery store, and wait in line. As tasty and tempting as Oreos are, you’ll probably go for the healthy snack instead because it’s easier.
