The Kitchen of Half-Baked Sports

Taking a break from the serious stuff to talk about some serious stuff. Sports!

  • NBA Playoffs are here. While my Spurs are playing well these days, I’m not thrilled about facing the Mavericks in the first round. Part of it is being subjected to two weeks of one of my least favorite people, Mark Cuban. Another is the fact that the Mavs match up better against the Spurs than other teams do. I’m one of the rare people who was hoping the Spurs would face the Lakers in the first round. The Lakers aren’t in good form right now and will probably be stronger later on. But that’s OK, I still so: Go, Spurs, go!
  • I’m excited for Colt McCoy with the upcoming NFL draft. Never met Colt, but I know several members of his family. His aunt and uncle, Amy and Sid Walker, were friends of mine at Abilene Christian. And his granddad, Burl McCoy, once had me come try out for a youth ministry position at the Merkel Church of Christ. The McCoy family is a fine Christian family; I’m really hoping that Colt will be happy in his NFL career. I pray that God will continue to use him for His glory.
  • And no… I just don’t get into baseball anymore. Got away from it when I lived out of the country and can’t seem to get back in. I find it to be mind-numbingly slow. At least I’ve got the World Cup between the end of the NBA and the beginning of football season. Argentina looks to be a contender at South Africa 2010, especially with Lionel Messi playing the way he is right now. ¡Vamos, Argentina, todavía!

That’s it for the sports. Now back to our discussion of Romans 13…

Tim, baseball is for those with patients ( and those who need a nap)
I would venture to say you could not have taken on the job given Moses (40 years) OK gang this is getting a little boreing, let me see a few elbows thrown, a fast break or two, or maybe an interception, and runback. “But Tim, we have been wandering around now for 39, yrs. “don’t whine, I want a little action” (or something to that effect) some people are not natured for baseball.

You need to spend a day in Chicago in Wriglyville began with a slice of pie (that’s deep dish pizza for those not from Chicago) washed down with some…(root) beer :-) and capped off by a Cubs game, preferably with a seat among the bleacher bums then come and tell me if you can’t get into baseball.

If you’re still board after the game, the trip back on the El-train at night can be counted on to provide some excitement.

    Grace and peace,

I laugh, though, when Americans complain about how boring soccer is, then they sit and watch baseball!

I love baseball AND soccer. Played the latter for 14 years of my life on club teams in the Mid-Atlantic. So I’m looking forward to the World Cup; though I don’t have cable; which means I’ll have to hop over to a Sports Pub to catch some games and have some of that (root) beer Rex was talking about. :)

Unfortunately, for baseball, my Orioles are at it yet again with a 1-9 start. It’s getting masochistic to actually care about them after the last decade or so.

    Rex,

I did mean to say, I find EVERY team sporting event to be interesting in person. I even like hockey in person.

Here’s one for you baseball fans: I caught a foul ball during a one-hit game that Jerry Reuss threw against the Reds at Dodger stadium.

    Grace and peace,
    Tim Archer
