Good news from a distant land

Like cold water to a weary soul is good news from a distant land.” (Proverbs 25:25)

I do a 15-minute radio program in Spanish, 5 days a week. I enjoy it, but I have to admit that there are times when I almost groan when it’s time to record.

Then you get one of “those” letters. Like the e-mail message from a preacher in Cuba:

Of course, here in my province there is a woman who frequently listened to the radio program where you preached. (Tim’s note: That radio station ceased broadcasting, so I’m not currently on the air in her area). Tony gave me her address and I visited her. After hearing the Gospel, she was baptized, and, to God’s glory, this past week we started a new congregation in her house… In this way, the words are fulfilled that some sow, others water and God gives the growth.

After reading that message, it was much easier to go to the studio yesterday.

Amen Tim! Just imagine how it sounded in heaven! (Luke 10:7,10)

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
    so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
    (Isaiah 55:10-11)

Keep on keepin’ on. Perseverance is a gift of God.

    Grace be with you –

Thanks for sharing this, Tim, and thank you for your ongoing ministry of sharing the message of Jesus Christ, both near and far, in English and Spanish. I am also grateful for those who serve in follow-up ministries, and most of all thankful for a faithful God who supplies the growth to all of our planting and watering. I hope that you will continue to receive encouraging emails like the one above, especially in those times when you may be discouraged, frustrated, or just plain tired. I know that you have experienced this many times before, when “refreshment to a weary soul” came precisely at the right time and kept you going for another day.

I appreciated your insights and enjoyed reading the contributions of others in the recent series of posts on the Sermon on the Mount. I had nothing profound to offer to the discussion, but enjoyed reading it nonetheless.

    Tim
