Alan Robertson on ‘Duck Dynasty’: Not ‘The 700 Club for Rednecks’

Our faith is the main part of our lives, but it’s better to be subtle. It’s more effective. When Jesus talked in parables, he wanted people to seek and find. I think it’s better that it’s funny, and while faith is there, for people who want more, we have that in our books. We don’t want to make it like ‘The 700 Club for Rednecks.’

How to Make Perfect Coffee

And that’s the beauty of coffee. When we first started our journey, we were embarrassingly ignorant about the most basic aspects. The choices, the culture, the equipment—it was all so overwhelming that we had no clue where to begin.
But pretty quickly we found ourselves climbing the coffee learning curve. Learning to brew great coffee didn’t have to take forever. It was a hobby that you could pick up on a Saturday morning and feel good about.

Keeping it short

Falcon found on plane – the strangest things left on board revealed

Dentures, underwear, a glass eye and a prosthetic leg were also on the long list of weird and wonderful items abandoned at the end of a flight. Other random curiosities discovered include a single egg (without packaging), a bag of sand, and a written marriage proposal. Whether the latter was intended for a cabin crew member or a passenger is unclear. And let’s hope the wedding dress left in the overhead locker found its owner before the big day.

Popularity Of Circumcision Falls In U.S., Especially Out West

Parents have also been getting mixed messages about circumcision. The American Academy of Pediatrics said in the ’70s that there was no medical indication for routine circumcision of the newborn. Then the AAP said in the late ’80s that there might be some medical benefits. In an update in the late ’90s, the group said there wasn’t enough evidence of benefits to recommend routine circumcision.
In 2012, the pediatricians said “the medical benefits of circumcision outweigh the risks.” Circumcision can reduce the risks of sexually transmitted disease.

The Good Listener: When Is It OK To Wear Headphones In Public?

To me, the best rule of thumb is to choose the events for which it’s necessary and courteous to be mentally present — social events, meetings, the dinner table, any place people gather to converse or be entertained — and put the headphones away.

Government website offers Klingon translation

If you wanted to ask an Illinois Department of Employment Security professional how to appeal a denied claim — in Klingon — you would say: vaj tem DoQ, chay’ Qu’ appeal?
That means, if my claim is denied, how do I appeal?

The site offers translations via Microsoft Translator. The current options are Spanish, Polish, Simplified Chinese, Russian and Klingon.

Researchers find mother beetles eat young that beg too much

In the second experiment, the researchers deposited an adult female and a very large number of offspring from other beetles onto a carcass to see how the mother would respond to the inevitable begging that would ensue. They found that the mother responded by killing and eating those offspring that begged the most.

Spontaneous goat manure fire stinks up Vt. town

Redick says the manure would typically have been spread around the farm earlier in the year, but the rainy season and other factors kept that from happening.
He said he used to think spontaneous combustion was make-believe.
“Now I’m a believer,” he said.
