Grace, Truth, and Abortion

We don’t have to surrender an inch of moral ground or compromise a single conviction regarding abortion, but we can do much better, we must do much better, in communicating that truth with grace.

Child Refugees from Central America Need Protection, Not Deportation

In deciding how best to respond to the current surge in unauthorized immigration from Central America—particularly of unaccompanied children—we must ask ourselves what the best way is to address a humanitarian crisis of this magnitude. Do we show compassion to people who are fleeing their homelands and coming to the country they think holds the greatest promise of a better life? Or do we lock them all up and then kick them all out, leaving them to whatever fate might befall them back home?

MLB umpires flock to Pastor Dean to be baptized

Pastor Dean, as folks around baseball know him, is the leader of Calling for Christ, a nonprofit ministry that for the past 11 years has tried to ease the anguish of major league and minor league umpires by keeping them close to God. Esskew is 48 and enormous, with a booming, smoky drawl and his own cologne-scented weather. He ministers exclusively to umps, piling through stadium crowds with an awkward, hammering limp acquired years ago when a horse bucked him on the farm in Oklahoma where he lives with his wife.

Just Don’t Quit…

And I think I have identified one of the keys to becoming a mature Christian. Here is the answer to how to have a better marriage. Here is how to break free of your addictions. Here is how to find healing, deliverance, and restoration.
Here is the thing I look for in deciding to spend hours/years helping people.
Never give up. Don’t quit. Keep trying.

A Fresh View of Prayer

But really, I just want you to see that God is inviting you to Him, He promises to answer you, and He wants to give you stories that point to Him!If you’re struggling to pray, go somewhere quiet, turn off the phone, and say this simple prayer:
“Lord, teach me to pray.”

A plea to come forward

I was once at a church in South Wales during August and most of the congregation were away. The back 2 rows were full and then there were, maybe, 5 of us near the front. The preacher announced the first hymn and said ‘During this hymn I wonder if you’d be willing to move forward as we’re so few in number.’ He said it politely and I assumed they’d do the decent thing. We sang the hymn and no one moved; to which the preacher, who wasn’t having a happy time in the congregation, said unforgettably ‘I moved from a church where I was living in a 4 bedroomed house overlooking the sea to that terrible bungalow over there and you can’t even be bothered to move two rows forward.’ Let us pray…..

Bigger Than Baseball: 25 Million Watch U.S.-Portugal World Cup Match

ESPN reported Monday that the game was its most-watched event outside of N.F.L. or college football. But it even rivaled the audience for the B.C.S. championship game on ESPN last January. That game averaged 25.7 million viewers, only counting the ESPN numbers. Sunday’s World Cup game peaked in viewership on ESPN at 7:30 p.m. when it reached almost 23 million viewers.

Bolivia congress clock altered to turn anti-clockwise

“Who says that the clock always has to turn one way? Why do we always have to obey? Why can’t we be creative?”, he asked at a news conference on Tuesday.
“We don’t have to complicate matters, we just have to be conscious that we live in the south, not in the north,” Mr Choquehuanca added.

Dumbest Burglar Ever Logs In to Facebook on Victim’s Home Computer, Forgets to Log Out

Homeowner James Wood was needless to say surprised to see that Wig had taken the time to log in to Facebook while allegedly burglarizing his house, let alone that he had forgotten to log out of it before leaving.
