Feelings Are Real. But Are They Always The Truth?

Feelings are real – we truly experience them. We don’t imagine them. They are real. But they are not necessarily the truth. They may be the truth but they aren’t always the truth. If we believe in Jesus Christ and feel like God loves us and accepts us that is the truth. If we feel condemned or or that God has abandoned us that is not the truth.

Is Evangelical Morality Still Acceptable in America?

To a large extent, this tension has been caused by a shift in what we think of as the domain of morality. The vocabulary we use to describe same-sex marriage and contraceptives has changed from the language of morality to the language of rights. In many spheres, including some parts of the media, people no longer conceive of same-sex marriage or contraceptives as things which can be immoral. They may not be right or good for some people, but they can’t be immoral, let alone sinful. And it’s hard to extend freedom to a morality that is incomprehensible.

What is the most common ministry priority that a pastor neglects?

Pastors, I know your schedule is busy. I am aware of the great demands on your time that pull on your conscience. But, don’t forget to pray for your people this week. Pray with your people. Advice to Young Scholars

To me, the reality of this temptation, no less than any other temptation, should keep us mindful of the need constantly to tend the garden of one’s interior life. If anything can immunize us against the temptation to love applause above truth, it is prayer. We all need that immune system strengthener. Even those of us who think we are strong, who flatter ourselves with the thought that we are invulnerable to the lure of approval, are weak. In fact, in our self-flattery we are, perhaps, among the most vulnerable. It is so easy to think of oneself as Socrates—until the hemlock is served.

Experiencing something other than the prevailing system

The original reason for systemic biases is usually benign. “Most people” can’t use this, or most people don’t look like you or most people won’t benefit. Over time, though, the bias in favor of most people becomes more ingrained, and often serves as a barrier to change, reinforcing the power of the dominant group.

Spurs make history by hiring female assistant coach

The San Antonio Spurs made history Tuesday, announcing that six-time WNBA All-Star Becky Hammon will join the team as an assistant coach for the 2014-15 season. Hammon, a 16-year WNBA veteran who has played for the San Antonio Stars since 2007, will retire after the current WNBA season concludes. Hammon has spent time with the Spurs already, while rehabbing a knee injury last winter, and head coach Gregg Popovich said in a release that Hammon will be an asset for the current NBA champions.
