Not dead yet…

I’ve been focused on several projects the last few weeks that, to be honest, took most of my creative thought. Because of that, the blog has been hibernating.

I’ll get back to writing more consistently in the not-too-distant future. Thanks for checking in!

Back to the blog

It’s amazing how easily my routine can get thrown off. I spent most of the past two weeks with Juan Antonio Monroy, who was here from Madrid. In addition, we had activities around ACU Summit and the Harding Lectures. An interesting part of my job is that I get to be physically present at many of the lectureships, but rarely get to attend lectures or classes.

Anyway, I haven’t been doing my usual reading nor my usual writing. I hope to get back on pace this week.

Thanks for reading!

A Facebook group that I’m part of, called Compadres, had a blog tour this summer. The general theme was The Glory of The Son and each of us picked a story, event or teaching of Jesus that reflects His glory. Here are the posts:

June 5: Danny Holman: Jesus Challenge
June 10: Carl Jenkins: Give A Man A Fish
June 17: Jonathan Dobbs: Why Me, God?
June 19: Scott Elliott:The Beauty of the Gospel
June 24: Chris Hodges: The Glory of the Son
June 26: David Smith: then they can see my glory, which you gave me
July 1: Jeremy Hoover: Matthew and Mission
July 3: Allen Carr: The Glory in the Welcome
July 10: Daniel Burns: Not So With You
July 15: Rex Butts: A Place For Lepers
July 22: Jennifer Rundlett: A Vision of Harmony
July 24: Don Middleton: Come To The Table
July 29: Tim Archer: Do Not Be Afraid
August 5: Paula Harrington: When Doubt Met Divine
August 7: Holly Barrett: He knows me inside and out
August 12: Patrick Barber: Nothing But Leaves
August 14: Wade Tannehill: We Have Seen His Glory
August 19: Peter Horne: Walking the Racial Tightrope for Jesus
September 2: John Dobbs: The Shadow of Glory

If you’re spending time in the shadow of glory, just remember that in this time of wondering Jesus did not reject Peter. He did not express disappointment in him. He still saw Peter as a valuable and needed disciple. And so He sees this in you, even when you do not see it in yourself. This is demonstrated because Jesus does come for Peter and point him in the right direction. In some way, Jesus is coming for you. Be watchful. Like some of the post-resurrection appearances you may not recognize Him. Just listen for His voice. He’s got a job for you.

The only epiphany anyone gets to see is God revealed through his people. The glory of God is on display when you help someone change a flat tire, when you visit a nursing home resident, or when you take food to a grieving family. This is when we radiate the light of Christ. As Moses face was radiant, having been in God’s Presence, we “who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being tranformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is Spirit” (2 Corinthians 3:18).
Where have you most recently seen the glory of the Son?

Jesus didn’t tell him to believe more. He didn’t ask if he was a church member. He didn’t ask his views on doctrinal issues. He didn’t schedule a Bible study or have him recite the Sinner’s prayer. He didn’t sign him up for a Bible correspondence course or point him in the direction of the nearest synagogue. He didn’t ask the church to vote or pray. He didn’t call for a committee meeting. He didn’t consult the Greek text to make sure he really said what he just said. He just stopped what he was doing, listened to someone who was hurting and got involved in their lives. And he calls us to do the same thing. Even if we don’t have all the answers. Even if we face days of doubt. Even if we’re broken and hurting and tired. Even if all seems lost. Believe. Follow. Make a difference.
