A Facebook group that I’m part of, called Compadres, is having a blog tour. The general theme is The Glory of The Son and each of us will pick a story, event or teaching of Jesus that reflects His glory. Here are the posts so far.
June 3: Jeremy Schopper: Leaving the Noise Behind
June 5: Danny Holman: Jesus Challenge
June 10: Carl Jenkins: Give A Man A Fish
June 17: Jonathan Dobbs: Why Me, God?
June 19: Scott Elliott:The Beauty of the Gospel
June 24: Chris Hodges: The Glory of the Son
June 26: David Smith: then they can see my glory, which you gave me
July 1: Jeremy Hoover: Matthew and Mission
July 3: Allen Carr: The Glory in the Welcome
July 10: Daniel Burns: Not So With You

And it was there on the cross that Jesus THE SON was in his GLORY. It was there on the cross that Jesus took the greatest servant/slave role– a role that only he could take.
And in this flip flopped, turned upside down world the Jesus calls us to live, we must constantly look at the way the world defines things and remember four words.
“Not so with you.”

The idea of information, imitation, and innovation, as seen in Jesus’ example, gives us a reproducible model for discipleship in our own churches. By using simple, reproducible models like Life Transfomation Groups, Discovery Bible Studies, or even 3DM’s huddles, we can inform disciples, encouraging them to imitate even ourselves as we imitate Jesus. Through learning and imitating, they will become empowered to innovate and take the mission of Jesus to others in new ways.

July 3: Allen Carr: The Glory in the Welcome

The world is often unkind. I, myself can be selfish. But God is welcoming. When all other avenues fail me, I see the glory of God in the welcome.
At a table where everyone is invited. Faithful ones like my parents. People with serious doubts and questions like my friend. And even sinners like me.

For these words from our Lord were not recorded to give us greater clarity of knowledge about God, but to deliberately deepen the mystery that surrounds – indeed, is – our God, as well as our faith in him. They were not intended to answer our questions (as if we even naturally know what are the best questions to ask to begin with!), but rather to give rise to more and different questions in our heart. Truly, this is the purpose of these words from our Lord: to increase the volume of our wonder, not vaporize it.

If, one day, we hope to see the glory of the Son with our physical eyes, we must see the glory of the Son now with our spiritual eyes and “listen to him.”

Blogging

monkey typingI was at the Faulkner University lectures last week and got to meet a few people that I’ve only known via Internet. One of them was Matthew Morine, another longtime blogger.

Matthew mentioned that he feels that, in some ways, blogging is losing its steam. I think that depends on the subject, but I think it’s true for a lot of “preacher blogs.” Many are finding other social media more conducive to interaction.

I don’t know that I’ve ever stated it, but I’ve definitely changed my approach to blogging. I used to want to have something up every weekday, no matter what. Frankly, if you’re on a drive to increase readership and keep “your numbers” up, that’s the way to do it.

I still enjoy interaction, but my goals have changed. This blog is largely for me to work through thoughts and ideas, not a platform for expounding all of the wisdom I’ve accumulated in my half century of life. Because of that, I’ll write things of substance when I have time to interact with those commenting. When I don’t, I don’t mind a bit of silence.

All of that should be obvious, but what’s obvious to one person isn’t always obvious to another. Anyway, thanks for reading. And be patient… I don’t expect to get back to anything of substance until the end of the month.
