What Everybody Should Know

Facebook reminded me yesterday of an article that I wrote six years ago. It’s funny, it really sounds like something that could have been written any time over the last few months. Here’s how it begins:

Have you heard that July 2011 will have 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays and that this pattern only occurs once every 823 years? Has anyone ever told you that the Great Wall of China is the only manmade object visible from space? Does the phrase “we only use 10 percent of our brain” ring a bell?

What these things have in common, of course, is that none of them is true.

Hope For Life ministries presidential search

HOT Logo-BWI wanted to mention that Hope For Life, a Herald of Truth ministry, is looking for a new president and CEO. Our current head, Bill Brant, will be stepping down at the end of 2017. A national (international?) search is now underway to find his successor.

I’m not directly involved with the search in any way. It is being conducted by our board of directors. If you’d like to know more about what the job is about, you may look at the Presidential Search page on the HeraldofTruth.org website.

Feel free to pass this on to others who might be interested and qualified for the job.

I probably won’t get much written for this blog over the next few days. But here’s a couple of things I’ve written for other sites:

Peeking At Jesus

Hope For Life

HOT Logo-BWThere’s something big going on at the ministry that I work with. Earlier this year, Herald of Truth Ministries announced that we will begin using the name Hope For Life in our public outreach. Herald of Truth is a name with a lot of tradition, especially among churches of Christ. The ministry began in 1952 as an evangelistic ministry and continues to carry out evangelistic projects around the world.

However, it’s become clear that the name Herald of Truth does not communicate what we’d like, at least to people outside the church. We have operated the Hope For Life website for years and have come to see that “Hope For Life” expresses very well what we want people to know about us. We are offering hope; not a hope that begins with us, but the hope that only God can give.

The transition will be a gradual one. But as you hear me and others talk about Hope For Life, please know that we are talking about a ministry with a long trajectory of doing good around the world.

More Hope For Life

MHfL coverInstead of doing a Friday book review, as I have at times in the past, this Friday I have a book announcement. Steve Ridgell and I have written a third book: More Hope For Life. This is a follow-up to our 2011 Herald of Truth publication, Hope For Life.

More Hope For Life contains short articles designed to help people find the hope that only God can give.

The articles were originally published on the Heartlight Magazine web site. Most of them also appeared on our Hope For Life web site. The compilation makes it easier to present the articles to someone who is looking for hope.

The book has six sections:

  • Our Father In Heaven
  • Jesus, Our Hope
  • Walking In His Steps
  • The Contented Life
  • When Life Tumbles In
  • Life Without End

Each section is introduced with a pertinent Bible passage, and each article has one that follows it. The pictures in the book are all from Herald of Truth ministry projects.

The book costs $11.00, and shipping is $2.57. Residents of Texas have to pay sales tax as well. (If you would like a signed copy, please send an email to timothycarcher@gmail.com indicating how you would like the book inscribed. If you’d prefer to purchase by check, you can e-mail me at the same address for further information.)
