Interns at churches are all the rage these days. I like the concept; I’m not so fond of the terminology.
If you intern at a hospital, it’s because you have an interest in making medicine your profession.
If you intern at a newspaper, it’s because you plan to become a journalist.
If you intern with a youth minister, it’s because you enjoy working with kids and want to spend some months getting paid to do that.
That’s great. Glad the youth ministers are getting much needed help. But those aren’t interns.
You have a weird situation on your hands, if your congregation is bringing in interns that aren’t interested in doing full-time ministry.
Nick, it’s become fairly common in Texas.
That’s interesting… but I guess it correlates with the decreasing number of students who are interested in full-time ministry (if that’s actually a thing and not a Chicken Little statistic)
“If you intern at a newspaper, it’s because you plan to become a journalist.”
Or maybe you just like an up-close view of the ship sinking.
