Interview With a Christian

None of the businesses facing sanctions are saying they wouldn’t serve gay people as a class; they just don’t want to work at nuptials. This isn’t a structural system of oppression, a society-wide conspiracy like Jim Crow; we’re talking about a handful of shops across the country. It seems possible, and reasonable, to live and let live.

Marriage Won’t Make You Happy

We need to celebrate and honor marriage, but we also need to celebrate and honor Christian singleness. We need to teach people how wonderful a God-honoring marriage can be, but we also need to be careful we don’t oversell it as a ticket to guaranteed happiness. We need to keep this issue, like every other issue, in biblical perspective.

3 Reasons to Preach on Religious Liberty

  1. Jesus talked about religious liberty
  2. Paul spoke up when his own rights were violated
  3. Scripture encourages Christians to pray for religious liberty

Where Are The Jule Miller Filmstrips

Older members will talk about going to homes to show these Miller videos, or even older, the filmstrips. We have spent so much time making fun of some of the old ways, but we have not placed in the hands, new ways. Now before you give me a lecture on this, remember, I wrote a dissertation on missional transformation in a local church. I have studied missional methods, theology, practice, and systematic transformation. We experimented with various ideas of reaching out. We preached, lectured, on the methods of the missional movement. We talked about huddle groups, discipleship, and at the end of the day, I am not sure we provided a method that members could follow well.

The Courage of Bystanders Who Press ‘Record’

We don’t yet know who shot these videos of Slager, who carried these tools of witness. But unknown cameramen and women lived out high democratic ideals: They watched a cop kill someone, shoot recklessly at someone running away, and they kept the camera trained on the cop. They were there, on an ordinary, hazy Saturday morning, and they chose to be courageous. They bore witness, at unknown risk to themselves.

Kawhi Leonard ruins everything

There’s no reason that athletes like him should exist in this current NBA era. You don’t get to be a defensive mastermind while being that offensively talented. We let it slide with LeBron James because he was going bald at a young age and needed things to be happy about. Rajon Rondo used to be one of the best defenders in the league, but he had to sacrifice his jumper to get there.
Tony Allen and DeAndre Jordan accepted that trade-off too. Chris Paul defends well, but he also hits people in the groin and has an annoying fake twin brother, so he’s practically immoral. Danny Green, Leonard’s teammate, is an awesome perimeter defender, but looks like a walking meme.
Every great defender has to give up something. Every one except Kawhi Leonard.
