The Church I can’t Choose

Reconciliation is what it means to be church; to go “to church.” It’s what Jesus intended our gatherings to be and to produce. I can’t be reconciled alone. I can worship alone, but I can’t do and be church alone.
And I can’t be reconciled with people who are already just like me.

Atonement and Divine Child Abuse

…this accusation fails to comprehend that entering into death, willingly and out of love, is the act of God entering into the fullness of the human condition, including death. Once again, this is out of love: the Son entered into the suffering and death of humans because Father, Son and Spirit love each one of us and want to go down into the depths with us in order to lift us from death into life. The God who does not suffer with us doesn’t know us and becomes the remote God of deism.

5 Things This Christian Learned from Islam: Consistency

My pastor in the US used to say, If you don’t feel like praying or singing, pray and sing, and while you do it, ask God to change your attitude. In other words, be consistent and ask God to meet you in your weakness.
When something is done consistently, there is less room or time or energy spent on making decisions about it. When it is time to pray, and prayer has been done many times before, you pray. When it is time to get dressed and you have dressed modestly many times before, you dress modestly. When it is time to fast and you have fasted many times before, you fast.

The Importance of the Family Table

I know we are all busy, but this is truly important. Don’t get so caught up in the next game, event, club, business deal, or just being tired to miss out on a wonderful blessing that could happen in your own home. It doesn’t cost much, and it isn’t hard, but having a true family table will change your home for the better.

Learning Leadership By Wrestling Cats?

As a leader, make yourself accessible to the next generation in your organization by letting them inspect how you lead. Give them priority time to ask questions, and offer them an inside look at the way you plan for the future. Most importantly, entrust significant decisions to them. If you’re making all of the important decisions on the team, then you’re not successfully developing leaders.

Casting the Devil Out of the Jesus Story

In the Gospels, we see an elaboration on what the Old Testament and ancient Jewish tradition say about Satan: he is an accuser, deceiver, and tempter. I fully respect Downey’s reasons for omitting Satan from the Son of God film. You can certainly tell the gospel story without including him. Nevertheless, Satan remains an uncomfortable part of the gospel story, and knowing who he is and what he does helps us to fully understand what Christ has done for us.

Couple stumbles upon $10 million in rare coins

A Northern California couple out walking their dog on their property stumbled across a modern-day bonanza: $10 million in rare, mint-condition gold coins buried in the shadow of an old tree.
