A “Christian” Defense of Genocide? David Barton’s Justification of the Devastation of Native Americans

According to Barton, on the one side there were white people “really trying to be civilized,” and on the other side “the Indians [who practiced] torture” until the settlers started doing the same and the Indians said, “Oh, got the point, they’re doing to us what we’re doing to them, okay, we’ll sign a treaty.” That’s Barton’s twisted version of history and his equally twisted idea of the ethics of war. And, sadly, many people look to him and others who think like him for Christian leadership.

Laverne Cox Is Not a Woman

The question of the status of gay people interacts with politics to the extent that it in some cases challenges existing family law, but homosexual acts as such seem to me a matter that is obviously, and almost by definition, private. The mass delusion that we are inculcating on the question of transgendered people is a different sort of matter, to the extent that it would impose on society at large an obligation — possibly a legal obligation under civil-rights law, one that already is emerging — to treat delusion as fact, or at the very least to agree to make subjective impressions superordinate to biological fact in matters both public and private.

Are We Building Faith In The Bible INSTEAD of Jesus?

What I’m saying is that we should have the highest view of the Bible as possible, but the Bible is not for creating faith in the Bible, but in Jesus Christ. My particular view of the Bible and inspiration, (inerrant, infallible, etc.) might get shaken up every now and then with a challenging problem that can’t always be easily solved, but my view of Jesus, to whom the Bible testifies, is the foundation of my faith. And unless someone can produce Jesus’ dead body, that foundation isn’t going anywhere.

The God Who Shows Off Broken Seashells

To a child, it is silly to think that a broken edge could somehow diminish the value of a seashell. The edge is simply a testament to the waves that brought the shell to shore – waves which provide another source of continual amazement.

This Church Planting Thing

I miss the spiritual heart and hunger that I grew to love so much in East Africa. Where one could feel free to talk openly about spiritual things. The other challenge I see is the polarization of the right and the left and all the labels people are so quick to throw on each other. Both of these challenges need courage to push through the walls that people have built so that authentic community can be established.

Do You Want to Live Longer and Be Happier?

So while I do believe that following Jesus will help your marriage, and a good marriage may very well help you be happier and live longer, that is not the reason to become a Christian. Become a Christian because God loves you and his Son died on the cross to give you a way to be with God forever.
