Take Me To Your Leader

If you want to help save America, don’t put your hope in a party or a candidate. They’ll only let you down when they get in power and show foolishness, arrogance, and corruption over time like their predecessors. Instead, pray for your nation, obey our God, and invite others to join you in a love relationship with the only true King. Speak truth to power, defend the vulnerable, and work for justice regardless of who get’s elected. But don’t ever buy the lie that we can win at the ballot box what we’ve lost on the street.

What Would Happen if the Church Tithed?

The larger point is what would happen if believers were to increase their giving to a minimum of, let’s say, 10 percent. There would be an additional $165 billion for churches to use and distribute. The global impact would be phenomenal. Here’s just a few things the Church could do with the kind of money:
– $25 billion could relieve global hunger, starvation and deaths from preventable diseases in five years.
– $12 billion could eliminate illiteracy in five years.
– $15 billion could solve the world’s water and sanitation issues, specifically at places in the world where 1 billion people live on less than $1 per day.
– $1 billion could fully fund all overseas mission work.
– $100 – $110 billion would still be left over for additional ministry expansion.
Those are some amazing numbers.

Organic Evangelism

Paul knew how to plant churches and make disciples all over the Mediterranean world. And as he approached the end of this great letter to the Colossians, he gave the church a simple, organic way of reaching others. Pray as if souls are at stake, act as if souls are watching, and speak as if souls are listening.

Children are precious, complex and fragile

Children are changed for life by what they endure and those of us who work to raise them can’t treat them all alike because their traumas and fears are unique. They must fight daily to rise above the cruelties of life and we help them rise upward each and every day.

“I’m Guarding My Heart.”
“God Will Open the Door, or Close It if It’s Meant to Be.”

Pauley Perrette: ‘Why I Forgive My Attacker’

I’m often asked how I feel about him, and do I forgive him. Of course I forgive him. I have no anger, only sadness. He didn’t know who I was, he didn’t know who he was. His name is actually David, not William. He is very confused, he’s homeless and he needs help.
As far as forgiveness goes, I am a strong person of faith. I believe that the ability to forgive others and mostly ourselves is the greatest gift God has given to us. It is a journey, not always easy, but we must embrace forgiveness. We all need to be forgiven and we all need to forgive. Especially ourselves.

What it’s like to be that fat person sitting next to you on the plane.

In that way, air travel is sadly familiar, a microcosm of what happens so often as a fat person. I am watched — and judged harshly — as I try — and fail — to fit into a space that was made for someone else. I am always too big, always too much, always unacceptable. I must make myself smaller and smaller, reducing and reducing endlessly, my stubborn body resisting at every turn. Still, I am never quite small enough to make anyone else comfortable.

Legal marijuana causes Mexican drug cartel revenues to plummet

“Two or three years ago, a kilogram [2.2 pounds] of marijuana was worth $60 to $90,” a Mexican marijuana grower told NPR news in December 2014. “But now they’re paying us $30 to $40 a kilo. It’s a big difference. If the U.S. continues to legalize pot, they’ll run us into the ground.”
The falling price is also compounded with the cartels’ pressure to grow better pot, as many Americans can now legally purchase highly potent strains at their local dispensaries.

An open letter to the Whole Foods shoppers who consoled me when I learned of my dad’s suicide

I never saw you after that. But I know this to be true, if it were not for all of you, I might have simply gotten in the car and tried to drive myself home. I wasn’t thinking straight, if I was thinking at all. If it were not for you, I don’t know what I would have done in those first raw moments of overwhelming shock, anguish and grief. But I thank God every day that I didn’t have to find out. Your kindness, your compassion, your willingness to help a stranger in need have stayed with me until this day.

While his parents slept, this 7-year-old boy’s life was saved by Jedi, his diabetes-sniffing dog

Dogs can literally smell how well a diabetes patient is doing. In some circumstances — like Luke’s — a dog is a better judge of a little boy’s health than his parents, his myriad high tech monitoring machinery and even the patient himself.

Penguin Swims 2,000 Miles Every Year To Hang Out With Man Who Saved His Life

Every year since, the penguin spends eight months of the year on the Brazilian island with his new companion, only returning to the Patagonian coast in southern Chile and Brazil to breed in spring. It’s reported by the Wall Street Journal that this journey is around 3,200 kilometers (2,000 miles).

Why changing your password regularly may do more harm than good

But despite the conventional wisdom, it’s not clear that forcing users to change passwords on a regular basis actually makes sense for all workplaces.
A better idea may be for employers to explore log-in options that go beyond basic passwords — such as biometrics or two-factor methods that require users to also prove who they are by plugging unique codes sent via text for each log-in.
“In the longer term, we believe our study supports the conclusion that simple password-based authentication should be abandoned outright,” the UNC researchers wrote.

The Man Who Made A Million Empires

And yet, Sid Meier is a master storyteller, an inspiration for untold millions of plans and ambitions in the minds of his players. He is a curator of a particular view of history. He alchemizes the dead events of the past into something alive, something that people feel they can control. He is a creator of worlds.
