I rarely deal with serious matters on Friday, mainly because all of the websites that I maintain or track (about 10) show a sharp decline in readership on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Still, I don’t want to completely drop this discussion, so let me share some “assigned reading” for the weekend:
J.R. Sheets (is that how you write your name?) defends the concept of “perseverance of the saints” in at least a couple of posts:
Nothing Can Pluck Me From His Hand! (well, except me?)
Response-to-Comment Post
Royce Ogle posted, over two posts, an article by Edward Fudge:
Eternally Secure? Edward Fudge answers…
Are Believers Secure? more from Edward Fudge
Jay Guin did a series of posts concerning perseverance of the saints:
Election: The Problem with Perseverance of the Saints, Part 1
Election: The Problem with Perseverance of the Saints, Part 2
Election: The Problem with Perseverance of the Saints, Part 3
Election: Further Conclusions
Al Maxey has an interesting study on TULIP theology:
John Calvin
Introduction
Total Hereditary Depravity
Unconditional Election
Limited Atonement
Irresistible Grace
Perseverance of the Saints
Those are just a few people that I’ve interacted with. There are lots of studies out there. If you’ve found certain articles to be especially helpful, feel free to suggest them in the comments section.
It’s not J.R. – I’m a junior (dad same first name) so I have just always gone as Jr or JR; but no periods. Of course, my friends in the MA/NH area called me Junia so that’s available as well. But thanks for asking. :)
John Piper has a good seminar on TULIP. (it’s all free) From this link you can go to any part and I highly recommend watching the videos because the notes that are included do not include the explanation and discussion of things that goes on as he teaches. He is also doing another one of these this coming summer.
I would also recommend the following books:
The Holiness of God – RC Sproul
The Potter’s Freedom (a rebuttal of Norman Geisler’s ‘Chosen But Free’) – James White
Knowing God – J.I. Packer
Freedom of the Will – Jonathan Edwards
Desiring God – John Piper
One of the most influencing books that I have read is “The Silence of God”
written by Sir Robert Anderson. He wrote around the early 1900’s. He also wrote” Forgotten Truths” and “The Coming Prince.” He has other books of course. Charles Larkin is another author who has amazing insight to what God is doing in this Age of Grace…..
Just to let you know I dropped by on a Friday … trying to keep your readership numbers up.
