Thursday’s Links To Go

Trapped by tl;dr

Here’s what I’ve found: When I read in checklist mode, I learn almost nothing. It’s easy to cherry pick the amusing or the merely short, but it’s a quick thrill with very little to show for it.
Judging by length is foolish. TL;DR shows self-contempt, because you’re ignoring the useful in exchange for the short or the amusing. The media has responded to our demand by giving us a rising tide of ever shorter, ever more amusing wastes of time. Short lowers the bar, but it also makes it hard to deliver much.

God will give you more than you can handle: I guarantee it.

It never mentions anywhere in the scriptures that the Lord won’t give you more than you can handle. Yes, in 1 Corinthians 10:13 it speaks of Him giving us an escape from temptations so that it’s not too much to bear. But when it comes to pain, trials, heartache, and burdens– not once does it say it won’t be more than we can bear. Instead, it beautifully says this instead:
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me…for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matt. 11: 28-30)

Leadership and Language

When it comes to articulating a direction, I have learned that when the leaders are sick and tired of presenting and discussing, people are just then starting to grasp it. Both definition and repetition are necessary.

Nathan is why I don’t worry about the future of the church…

And one day it clicked. So one night we met at the building and Lee baptized Stephen. Then Stephen baptized his wife Monica.
All because Nathan believed that he ought to tell his friends about Jesus.
And some people worry about the future of the church. Not me.
Thanks Nathan. I look forward to what God is going to do with you. And Joseph. And your sisters. And your parents.
It will be amazing. Keep telling the story.

The NEW of New Years

Being a follower of Jesus makes one’s life NEW and notice the words that said old things have passed away. When you make that decision to follow Jesus and are baptized, then your “old things” do not matter to God anymore; you are NEW.

Planning Your Ideal Week

An ideal week should zone off your time so that your calendar can get filled in organically, but still make sure that your life has the right balance of priorities. – See more at: http://mikeyanderson.com/planning-your-ideal-week#sthash.aonb1N7s.dpuf

Thief mails woman contents of her stolen handbag
“It didn’t have a stamp, only a sticker from the health insurance and nearly everything that was missing had been returned: the content of my wallet, my ID, debit cards, photos and newspaper clippings; I had them all back,” she said. “I don’t think I will ever see the rest again, but I hope the thief reads this and returns the camera memory card. It contains photos of my last trip and snaps of the kids at Christmas.”
