The World Cup ends this Sunday. It’s the world’s biggest sporting event. For those of us that love to study cultures, it’s a great time.
You can see the different playing styles, watch the dress and reactions of the fans, view the ways that the announcers from different countries approach the game. The attention of the whole world is focused there (even if many in the U.S. still haven’t made the effort to try and understand why).
Still, it comes down to some soccer matches. My predictions were only 50% right last week; here are my picks for the last two games:
Consolation:
Germany over Uruguay
Championship:
Netherlands over Spain
(even if many in the U.S. still haven’t made the effort to try and understand why).
and you call me a “negative naybob”
i will be happy either way but probably lean towards rooting for netherlands
Thanks, Laymond, for yet another positive comment. Always appreciate your efforts to build up your brothers.
tim, i really like your netherlands pick. they were my first choice to win, and the second team i was cheering for (after the US). it may not be wise but i’m saying holland 2, spain 0.
As I watched very intently the world cup final it appeared very clear to me that the best team won. Beautiful skill, precise passing and brllliant ball control were displayed by the Spaniards. The poor Dutch could only foul to be competitive. The top 3 teams from Europe and only 1 from South America. The Champions League prepares the European teams to play at the top level in the world. The U.S. is so far behind it is embarrasing.
